There is no substitute for honesty. This is especially true in the business world. If you cheat your employees, consumers, clients, or business partners, they will not respect or trust you. Eventually they will decide that they need to have a person they can trust.
This is why I try to be up front and honest about how I work. It is also one of the reasons I bill by the page. You then know exactly what I have done, and we can decide in advance how much it will cost for the entire site.
It also means that if you want to add a page, I can easily tell you how much it will cost. This eliminates both the opportunity and desire to cheat. It also encourages me to finish your site more quickly, since I am not getting paid to sit around and think, but to actually produce results.

Freedom is like air: without it, we suffocate. This is true in picking a web designer as well as in making personal choices. So why not go with a designer that offers you both.
